NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships Program in Canada 2017 apply now

Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council NSERC Canada is Calling on Applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada can apply for the Fellowships.

The aim of Fellowships is to secure a supply of highly qualified Canadians with leading edge scientific and research skills for Canadian industry, government and universities.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is a Canadian government agency that provides grants for research in the natural sciences and in engineering.

NSERC supports post-secondary students and postdoctoral fellows in their advanced studies.

Course Level: These Fellowships are available to pursue postdoctoral research.

Study Subject: These Fellowships are awarded in the field of scientific research.

Scholarship Award: These Fellowships will be awarded $45,000 per year for two years.

Number of Scholarships: There are 10 fellowships available.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:


  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada; and
  • Hold or expect to hold a doctorate in one of the fields of research that NSERC supports.
  • In addition:
  • You must have completed all requirements for your first doctoral degree no more than two years before the deadline date of the year in which you apply, or by September 1 of the year of the award announcement.
  • If you have acquired at least six months of full-time relevant employment in industry or government (experience in a university or its affiliated hospitals, research institutions and other laboratories will not be considered) after you received your doctorate, NSERC will extend this eligibility period to three years.
  • If, within two years following the date of completion of your PhD, you withdraw from the workforce and from active research for maternity leave or to raise a child for at least one year, NSERC will extend this eligibility period to six years.

  •  Nationality: Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada can apply for the Fellowships.

    College Admission Requirement

    Entrance Requirements: You must have completed all requirements for your first doctoral degree no more than two years before the deadline date of the year in which you apply, or by September 1 of the year of the award announcement.

    English language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.
